Case Study

2010 Northern Ireland Electricity Storm Damage Repair of the Northern Ireland Electricity Network

This case study highlights CIET quick response time and our ability to carry out storm damage and emergency repairs.

Northern Ireland Storm Damage 2010

In April 2010, Northern Ireland experienced some of the most extreme weather conditions in many years.  The Easter snow and ice storms that battered Northern Ireland resulted in almost 125 kilometres of power lines being destroyed and 1,150 separate faults.

Due to these adverse weather conditions, CIET received a call from NIE, enquiring about the possibility of mobilising any available CIET staff as a storm was moving in. The storm coincided with our team being in the midst of a maintenance programme with ESB.  However, after explaining the urgency of the situation, ESB were happy to agree to discharge our team to carry out storm damage and emergency repair works for NIE.

CIET in conjunction with Northern Ireland emergency repair service personnel carried out all works over a 5 day period.
